Ad-Interim vs. Interim Injunction

Judicial Orders, Injunctions & Precedents

Definition

Ad-Interim Injunction: A provisional order passed on an urgent application operative temporarily until the application for interim relief is heard after the respondent enters appearance.

Interim Injunction: An order passed after hearing both parties on the injunction application, remaining in force throughout the entire duration of the trial until final decree.

Example

In a property dispute in Chennai, the judge grants an ad-interim injunction for two weeks; after the defendant files a reply and both advocates argue the application, the court confirms it as an interim injunction pending final disposal of the suit.
