Definition
A formal order or decree passed by a court recording a lawful, voluntary compromise, settlement, or agreement entered into by the parties under Order XXIII Rule 3 CPC, conclusively ending the litigation without a trial on merits.
Example
In a trademark infringement suit before the Bombay High Court, the parties execute signed consent terms dividing brand usage territories; the court accepts the terms and passes a consent decree in terms thereof.
