Definition
"As much as he has deserved." An equitable claim under Section 70 of the Indian Contract Act allowing a party who has partially performed an obligation under a contract that is subsequently terminated or breached to recover fair remuneration for the work actually completed.
Example
In State of West Bengal v. B.K. Mondal & Sons, a contractor constructed warehouse sheds for the state government pursuant to informal requests without a formal Article 299 contract; the Supreme Court held the contractor was entitled to compensation on a quantum meruit basis under Section 70.
