Definition
A report filed by the police under Section 173 CrPC / Section 193 BNSS when an investigation reveals that no sufficient evidence exists to justify prosecuting the accused, or that the complaint was civil or false.
Example
In an FIR alleging car theft, the police discover that the complainant hid the vehicle in a private garage to claim insurance; the investigating officer files a closure report before the magistrate.
